This project, a study of leadership in 21 secondary schools, sought to describe and develop learning-centred leadership in both its instructional and interpersonal dimensions, with a specific focus upon the practice of middle leaders.

The main aims of the project were to:

Investigate the nature of effective learning-centred leadership and its contribution to the creation of teaching and learning schools Analyse and describe the practice of learning-centred leadership and its influence upon bringing about change and improvement in the professional practice of others Examine the processes involved in creating learning and teaching schools in which such leadership can be developed, supported and sustained

A protocol was agreed to group the findings from the visits to the case study schools under the following headings:*

2. School leadership
3. Middle leadership
4. Staff and student perceptions
5. School culture and climate
6. Benefits for RAs
